Westerly built 388 Cirrus fin keelers between 1968 and 1972, winning the Yachting World Rally, in competition with 27 rivals, and proving that with her iron fin keel this cruiser, with four berths, standing headroom and an enclosed head, could be raced against Junior Offshore Group competition. One Cirrus sailed single-handed from San Francisco to Honolulu.

The Good Yacht Guide says "typical Westerly looks [except for a bow knuckle]. Higher than usual freeboard which allowed a very unusual 6ft headroom in a 22-footer of that period. A useful steady performer and quite close-winded with a well-finished if rather ‘plasticy’ interior. She offered a three-berth forecabin and, going aft, a completley separate but cramped WC compartment, a small two-seater dinette converting to a single berth in the saloon with a good galley opposite and a quarter berth aft of it."

Deck gear: Tiller steering, main anchor, kedge anchor, with chain and warp. two single speed sheet winches, cockpit cover, mooring warps and fenders. Navigation, mooring and cabin lighting. Boarding ladder and cockpit cushions.

Safety gear: Lifejackets, dan buoy, lifebuoys and safety harnesses, fire extinguishers, automatic and manual bilge pumps.

Navigation equipment: Boson grid compass, NASA depth sounder and log, clock, barometer and VHF aerial.

Accommodation: Saloon and fore-cabin well-fitted out and upholstered in blue PVC, with two berths in forecabin, one berth in saloon and a quarter berth. Separate head with sea lavatory. Cold water supply from flexible water tank. Two-burner spirit stove and cooker, ice box, cutlery, pots and pans.

JICARILLA is offered for sale on her launching trailer in Cheshire. Her owner has bought a larger yacht.
